Violinist Gabriel Solomon made his solo debut with the Calcutta Foundation Orchestra in Calcutta, India, and has appeared as a recitalist in the United States, Canada, and India.  He has toured in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic,  and South Africa. In 1997, Mr. Solomon traveled as a street musician through cities in Europe from Paris to Venice, performing an impromptu solo recital at the Greek Theater in Barcelona.

Mr. Solomon earned a M.Mus and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Longy School of Music, where he studied with Laura Bossert, Peter Cassino, Charlie Banacos, Ben Schwendener, and studied Ornette Coleman’s approach of Harmolodics with pianist Dave Bryant. Mr. Solomon earned a B.Mus from the University of Victoria, Canada, where he studied with members of the Lafayette String Quartet. He is a registered Suzuki teacher maintains an active Suzuki violin studio in Woburn, MA.

Mr. Solomon also performs as a jazz and improvising musician. He is the founder of Zulu Time, a trio of violin, accordion, and bass, for which he has transcribed and arranged the music of Astor Piazzolla, Wayne Shorter, John Zorn, and Hermeto Pascoal. Zulu Time draws from folk, chanson, jazz, and tango to create a multi-genre mosaic.

Past projects include Shiki Group, an improvisational trio seeking a new musical language through collaboration and interactive composition, which he co-founded with pianist Michael McNeill and saxophonist Tsuyoshi Honjo. In 2001, he was a founding member of the Mercury Consort, a collective of musicians performing compositions and arrangements of material from Hildegard von Bingen and John Dowland through Alfred Schnittke and Jaco Pastorius.
